Beth Meade Leavitt

I am a change of careers educator. After spending 12 years in industry as an environmental chemist I was compelled to enter education as my way of giving back. Working with NASA and Roper Mt. Science Center have enriched my 15 years as a teacher of physics and astronomy at WHHS. My 7 years working with another FIRST FRC team prepared me to lead this new team at WHHS. I am focused on teaching and learning but cognizant that FIRST is more than just the robot. We will be "Leading Like Generals" in robotics and in the community.

I am privileged to be our school's Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Pathway to Engineering teacher.  I started teaching at Wade Hampton High School in 2009, after graduating from Ball State University in Muncie, IN.  I taught science for four years, before taking over our PLTW program in 2013.  This is my first year working with First Robotics, and I am excited that the engineering program and our new General Robotics team will have the chance to work together.  Currently, our engineering program offers two courses, Introduction to Engineering Design and Principles of Engineering, both of which help prepare students for the kinds of problems they will face as a part of FRC.  It is my hope that through our teaming with our school's robotics team we can add future engineering classes like Computer Integrated Manufacturing or Engineering Design and Development in order to further compliment our FRC team.

I am a Mechanical Designer at Hamilton Automation. I work closely with Rob Aldridge, a former leading mentor of the team, to design and build automated machinery.  I have been in the industry for a few years, but my true love is cars.  I have been modifying and working on cars since I was in high school.  I have always been interested in how and why things work the way they do.  During high school I was on FRC Team 1319 and enjoyed my time there.  We won the Boiler Maker Regional and received the Spirit Award.  I look forward to sharing what I have learned from my past FRC experiences as well as my design and mechanical abilities.  I am excited to see what this season will hold, and what we will learn!

I am a Sophomore student at Clemson University, where I am studying Computer Science. I was on Team 283 as a programmer for it's first FRC season during my junior year of high school. My senior year I was the Team Captain and Lead Programmer for the team. I have been the Programming Mentor for the team since the summer of 2016.
